Jam with Band
- Jammed with the band students today: Sly and the Family Stone - "I Want to take you Higher" Kids loved it and played with style and rhythm....instructions:
1. Pick a note 2. Listen 3. Feel the grove 4. Play.....keep listening while you play.
- We took turns and kids pretty much naturally traded eights. Most kids played one note....some found a note that they liked......Alto sax when crazy but gave it his all....lots of fun. New students played Do, Re & Mi.......II & III played the first two measures of Furioso: sFp. They're getting it!
- We sang Tonic, Dominant and Sub-dominant patterns: C.H and M.J. are almost able to hear patterns and echo them on instruments.

Plan B
Created the handout with all of the six notes in Furioso(note names and solfedge, all three transpositions on one sheet).... 80-85% of class could play the six notes with the aid of fingering chart. Asked students to play the rhythms in the first two measures on whatever note they chose. Some students could play correct notes and rhythms, some played correct rhythm, and a couple just made various rhythmical sounds.....
Had first year students finger and attempt first three notes: #2,4 and 5 in SOE....Many students able to already play do re mi.........good tone quality......low brass needsthe most attention, M, G, and F getting wonderful tone quality but have trouble getting the desired pitch..

Home will be for ED
This page is intended to help me document the activities and strategies that I've employed in my teaching position. I'm attempting to coordinate Gordon's Music Learning Theory with traditional musical instruction in the musical language.
Monday, I handed out fingering charts to the year II&III band students and asked them to find all the notes that are in the composition Furioso. It is my hope that students will explore their instruments and the notes on the fingering chart......we'll find out if anybody did it on Friday.....plan b is a worksheet that I am composing that presents all of the notes in the song on one piece of paper.....one for each instrument grouping. [Trad.]
The band echoed tonal solfedge patterns that were tonic and dominant. They sang the resting tone only and the class patterns in tune. Some students are beginning to play patterns on their instruments....need to remain consistent in skill learning sequence activities.[MLT]
Students get warnings when they're disruptive: 1,2,3: back to class. 3 times back to class: parent contact, dismissal from band.
Analysis of Blackbird, Sour Times, Born Again, Seven Days and Jaws theme completed and submitted to Dr.Boone.....awaiting feedback...
Passed off two songs piano performance and one song conducting...working on the Handel and Bach

Went through Standard of Excellence today with the year II&III Band at HB. Students enjoyed it as we skipped through.....material is familiar from last year (DO is C etc.) Keyboarding helped them at HB as well....Will have II&III year students in Book II very soon as well as playing Furioso. Still need to construct worksheet for all of notes in Furioso
